Hotel Vondel exists of seven connected characteristic 19^th century mansions. They’re connected to one another through long halls and ancient stairwells. All this has a setting where the stylish interior is combined with typically Dutch elements. The design is a great combo of homely coziness, modern art, mixed with a Dutch twist.

Their young and devoted staff does everything they can to make you feel at home. From the moment you arrive, tot the day you leave, they will be ready to help you. The hotel seems stately from the outside, but from the inside it’s homely and cozy. This makes you feel Hotel Vondel is your second home. For business guests as well as tourists, this is a great stay to be staying at during a city trip to Amsterdam. You can also have a delicious meal at restaurant Joost or an extensive high tea in the beautiful little backyard.

Hotel Vondel has different types of rooms you can choose from. Every room looks different, but has the same style. So it’s always a surprise what your room is going to look like exactly, but that is part of the charm of course. So you can choose to book a suite for example or if you’re a family you can even book an apartment.

In the apartments you’ll find the original fish bone wooden floorboard, which really gives you the feeling of staying in a true luxurious mansion. They’re laid out spacious and cover the whole floor. What astonished me during my stay at Hotel Vondel, was that it’s so quiet at night, even though you are in the center of Amsterdam. Perfect for sleeping!

Some rooms at the front of the hotel have their own little cast-iron balcony with two seats. Tip, order a bottle of wine and sit out in the sun with the two of you. From the balcony you get a beautiful view of both sides of the street. A good glass of wine, sun on your face, beautiful surroundings and all of that in the heart of Amsterdam: What else would you want? They are the little moments that make a stay here so great.

When you don’t want to seek the bustle of the city center in the evening and you just want to dine closer to home, then restaurant Joost is definitely a must. Restaurant Joost is this hotel’s atmospheric meeting place. It has a seasonal Dutch menu. The cook mainly aims for quality and you definitely can taste it.

During September they still serve real mussels from Zeeland. I, myself tried the Musselpan with cream sauce from Van Wees and I have to admit that I thought this dish was delicious. The sauce was made of ‘kraaman ice cream’ liquor. And for your dessert I can recommend taking the chocolate mousse garden. Just too good! And after the delicious wines – read Mas des Dames -, your bed calls you like never before 😉
