From Amsterdam with Love Hotel V Nesplein

Hotel V Nesplein is a hotel with a story. Upon arrival your attention is drawn by the huge crystal chandelier hanging in the hall. This amazing chandelier symbolizes the world of theatre, because Hotel V Nesplein is located in the former theatre district of Amsterdam.

Next to that is Hotel V Nesplein a true Amsterdam family business. It is run by 11th generation born and raised Amsterdam people. How special is that! The owners have a big passion for the history of the city and knew how to design Hotel V Nesplein creatively. The interior is a combination of vintage chic with an industrial twist.

Hotel V Nesplein is located in the middle of the city center. Right next to De Dam, at a stone’s throw of the well-known moats and in walking distance from the Red Light District. This 4-star boutique hotel has 43 rooms varying from comfort to suites.

Because of the perfect situation you will be at De Dam, the flower market, the colorful flee market at Waterlooplein, the busy Kalverstraat, the Vondelpark and a lot more in no time. It is also wonderful to just stroll through the small streets, because there is so much to see.

For example, I found a really cute coffeehouse named De Laatste Kruimel (The Last Crumble), right around the corner from the hotel. When you walk down the street towards the Munttoren, you can already smell the freshly baked apple pie. Snug coziness and amazingly delicious.

Because the family history of the owners of the hotel started almost 400 years ago, they know the city like no one else. They love their city and they show it. That’s why “From Amsterdam with loVe” is their motto.

Centre of Amsterdam

The beating heart of the hotel is “The Lobby”. It’s a unique concept where the lobby, the hotel bar and the restaurant come together in one place. As a guest you immediately get invited to sit down in “The Lobby”. Here you can sit down to read your newspaper, but also to lunch or dine among the true Amsterdam people in the evening.

Since the opening in 2013 Hotel V Nesplein has made the “living lobby” a thing. The restaurant is a hip and accessible meeting place where locals, tourists as well as hotel guests like to come together. The concept is infectious because it’s always nice and busy.

“The Lobby”

The Lobby is a real hotspot among local Amsterdam people and it‘s always packed. During the weekends it’s super fun and busy. For breakfast, as well as lunch and dinner, this place is loved by all. You can go there any time of day, actually. Go lounge next to the fire place or read a book in the whiskey corner for example.

Hotel V makes the difference. The crew of the hotel is young, hip and always down to have a chat. Hospitality is one of their main priorities, but it’s mostly the relaxed atmosphere that takes over here. What else I noticed is that the small details make a difference. Why pay for bubbly water? Everybody gets a big bottle of water at the table as a standard. Furthermore, the menu is designed practically with fixed prices for appetizers, main courses and desserts.

I’m a fan of healthy food myself. Hotel V Nesplein is too apparently, because they also serve delicious little a la carte breakfasts. My favorite is farmer’s yoghurt (0% fat) with goji berries, linseed and clover honey. And if you want some extra granules – like me – that is no problem at all. Or choose a toasted sandwich with ham/cheese made from spelt bread.

Hotel V Nesplein surprised me positively. Not just the location is perfect, but it’s mostly the way you somehow get to know the city and become one with its people. The Lobby in particular seemed a great asset to the Amsterdam street De Nes. I would say Amsterdam at its best!
