Dubrovnik, most beautiful walled city in the world

Nothing can prepare you for your first introduction to the city of Dubrovnik. Located about 200 km south of Split, this old town has an impressive position on the coast. It is also one of the best-preserved medieval walled cities in the world.

The massive stone ramparts and fortified towers meander around the small harbour, with orange roof tiles, copper domes, and elegant bell towers. Whether you look at the city from the cable car, a kayak at sea, or from the road leading out of the city, the city continues to impress and you can fully imagine what it looked like seven centuries ago when the city walls were built.

The nicest hotspots of Athens

The ancient metropolis Athens is best known for the remains of the antiquity. The Acropolis, Ancient Agora, and impressive temples of Hephaestus and Zeus are the biggest attractions of the Greek capital.

Athens has surprised me because it offers so much more. The colorful labyrinth of alleys beneath the Acropolis is a perfect starting point to explore by foot the authentic and trendy neighborhoods. Proceed at the end of the day to the Lycavittos Hill where at sunset you can admire the splendid views of the Acropolis and the city.

Düsseldorf, modern city on the waterfront

With Christmas around the corner, I start to get butterflies in my stomach. I get the urge to get in the mood and I long for the dark days where coziness is the most important thing. It’s almost become a tradition to visit a nice Christmas market with your sweetheart, a couple of friends or your family each year. Everyone around me is talking about it and stresses out over the choices. The German cities are well-known for their cute Christmas markets, but which one are you going to go for?

This year we chose Dusseldorf. Not even 1.5 hours away from my house and only 2 hours and 15 minutes from Amsterdam, you will find this amazing city on the waterfront. I had heard a lot about I and got a lot of positive reviews. It’s a great place to go shopping and the Christmas markets in Dusseldorf are especially vibrant, so I’ve been told. I had never been in Dusseldorf for a Christmas market and I was very curious to experience it.

Romantic weekend in Heidelberg

A couple years ago, I lived in Munich for half a year during my international study. The time I spent in ‘Beieren’ was unforgettable. Since then I’ve become hooked on everything that has to do with the German culture. I’m a big fan of ‘Butterbretzel’ for example – you know, those salty sticks but in bread form – which I prefer with fresh butter, but a plate of Schweinehaxe with Knödeln can also not be forgotten during a visit to a real Bierstube. It’s mostly the charm and coziness of the German cities that appeal to me and that’s why I feel more than at home there.

During my last trip through Germany I ended up in Heidelberg. Heidelberg is a picturesque city, situated in the south-west of Germany and in the northern part of the state of Baden-Württemberg. Heidelberg is mostly a great destination to just stroll around in, enjoy the many terraces and to go out for dinner in the evening. Because Heidelberg is a true student city there’s enough to do in the evening. Read More…
