Olives, feta, moussaka … Those are the first words that come to the mind of many people when they think of Greek food. But Greek cuisine offers much more. Thanks to the many vegetables, citrus fruits and olives, it is mentioned as the healthiest cuisine in Europe. It is simple and uses always fresh products.

On the coast you can eat delicious dishes with freshly caught fish such as king prawns or squid. But also various meats including lamb and pork, olives, cheese and yogurt are popular ingredients and are often home-produced. Fresher than this is impossible!

Greeks give great importance to conviviality and extensive meals. They love to spend time in the kitchen and to enjoy to eat a variety of small bites with the whole family. They share several dishes (“mezedes”) on small bowls, drink a fresh glass of wine, and enjoy intensely this being together. Let yourself be tempted by these delicacies and take the time to not only enjoy the well prepared dishes but also the relaxed atmosphere.

Getting there?

By plane

The fastest and most efficient way to travel from the Netherlands to Greece is by plane. Especially if you go on holiday to the Greek islands, is flying by far the best option.

During the summer season there are many charter flights available. In the winter season, on the other hand, many Greek islands are not directly accessible. You have to fly via Athens, e.g. with the airline Aegean.

By car

You can also drive to Italy, and then take from either Brindisi, Venice or Ancona the ferry to Greece. Make sure you book in advance the passage! You can also fly to Greece and on arrival rent a car to explore in all quietness this wonderful sunny country.
