Fairy tales come true, this is my personal story about how a dream became reality. Last year during summer time I was traveling through Thailand for the first time. I visited the island of Koh Lanta and walked along the idyllic Kantiang Bay. It is a very beautiful spot that is situated next to a nature reserve. While I watched the green hills with its dense tropical forest, I saw a glimpse of the famous Pimalai resort. At that moment I dreamed to come back one day, and I did. Less than a year later I was back in the same spot. This time not the bottom of the bay, but on top of the hills of the Prestigious Pimalai!
Harmony, rest, and privacy. These are the words that come to your mind when you think of Pimalai. This idyllic boutique resort is nestled in lush tropical forest of 40 hectares. The resort has direct access to an expansive pristine sandy beach overlooking the clear blue waters of the Andaman Sea. The resort combines all the right ingredients: discreet five star comforts, natural beauty, and a genuinely friendly service.
Pimalai Resort
At The Pimalai Resort, nature is at the heart of everything. And that’s reflected in each detail of the location, from its construction to the facilities they offer. Executed to perfection and in balance with its natural surroundings. Pimalai remains faithfully committed to its concept, because the resort aims to offer its guests a “natural comfort” and to meet all their needs. In order to do this, tranquility and privacy prevail and therein they passed with flying colors!
Private Villas
The 121 rooms, suites and villas are spread among the tropical gardens. The design in Thai style is complemented with solid teak floors, ocher-colored Thai fabrics, bamboo blinds, hand-made wooden furniture and comfortable chairs in Art Deco style on the outside porch.
The 39 pool villas are located high on the hill. The 1, 2, or 3-bedroom villas with ocean views, are ideal for those who want complete privacy. They are equipped with a private infinity pool, an outdoor sun deck, a living room and a full kitchen. Here you can escape completely!
The Beach Villas are nestled amidst beautifully landscaped gardens and have direct access to the pristine beach which is only a few meters away. All rooms have a living- and dining area as well as a large wooden terrace with partial views of the beach and the bay.
During our stay I stayed in a pool villa which consisted of no less than two buildings. One building is the sleeping villa and at the other side you find the living room villa. The villas are separated by a private pool with sun terrace and an open pavilion where you can lounge and enjoy the fantastic views. Luxury at its best!
People come here for the tranquility and privacy. The villas are equipped with everything you could wish for. Staying at Pimalai is like a dream, so beautiful and never to forget.
In het heart of nature
Located amidst dozens of hectares of tropical vegetation, Pimalai is the perfect combination of nature and luxury in one. It is an absolute luxury to enjoy each day in such a unique and exclusive environment. Here you can relax in and around your villa nestled in the green, right in the heart of nature. An extraordinary experience!
Pool Paradise Pimalai
The Pimalai resort has two fabulous infinity pools. Downstairs at the bay you find the beautiful 35-meter-long freshwater infinity pool, equipped with a jacuzzi, perfect for a refreshing dive. Or try the wonderful pool near the pool villas, located 50 meters above sea level, this pool offers breathtaking 180 degree views of the bay below.
Arriving at Pimalai
When you arrive at Krabi Airport, your personal Pimalai attendant is already waiting for you, just outside the security. He will bring you — in a 30 minutes trip — over to Pimalai’s private dock. The tone for the trip has been set here. Then you step on a private boat that gets you to the Pimalai Resort Koh Lanta. You need to be patient, but every moment of this trip is special and when you finally arrive in this rare paradise, you just forget everything around you.
Facilities Pimalai
Pimalai has plenty of luxury amenities and special activities to enrich your stay. The excellent friendly staff is always available to make every day a special day. You can relax by the pools and enjoy the beautiful water gardens.
For water sports enthusiasts there are canoes, surfboards, paddle boards and even small sailing boats are free of charge for use at the resort. Or you can sign up for a cooking class and learn to create famous Thai dishes with experienced chefs. Pimalai has something for everyone!
Spa Pimalai
The fantastic Spa is one of the highlights of Pimalai. The seven treatment rooms are located in a lush sloping valley and connected by wooden walkways. The Spa offers aromatherapy massages, body wraps and exfoliating treatments and is also equipped with a jacuzzi and herbal sauna.
You absolutely should once book the one-hour traditional Thai massage, that is offered in the beautiful thatched pavilions made of teak and bamboo. All you hear are (real) birds and running water. So relaxing!
Or choose the private spa treatment in your own villa on the “sun terrace”.
Excursions
Pimalai offers a range of excursions and boat trips. You can witness the breathtaking beauty of Koh Lanta (by car or by foot), or you can enjoy Lanta Marine National Park. This park consists of several small islands which are perfect snorkeling destinations.
Set sail and discover the small islands that surround Koh Lanta such as Koh Rok, Koh Haa, or Koh Ngai. They are one by one small paradises that are blessed with turquoise waters, wonderful marine life and white sandy beaches in an almost pristine environment.
Koh Haa is one of the neighboring islands of Koh Lanta that you can visit with an excursion. Koh Haa literally means five islands. This jewel in the Adaman Sea, nestled in the Koh Lanta National Park, is a collection of five smaller islands.
As you approach the islands, your attention goes immediately to the beautiful limestones that are standing out the sea. The deep blue of the sea turns into an azure shadow of the lagoon. The lagoon is a beautiful location for snorkeling because it is nicely sheltered and has a shallow sandy bottom. On the western side of the lagoon you find a beautiful white sand beach where you can relax and if you wish can go diving in the crystal-clear waters.
Ultimate relaxing holiday
If you want to do spend a calm day, you can simply lie by the pool, where you can enjoy yourself for hours. The view is overwhelming. The pools of Pimalai are really one of the nicest I’ve ever seen in Thailand.
The beach of Kantiang Bay
Kantiang Bay is located on the southern tip of Koh Lanta. It is a quiet and secluded sand beach stretching over nearly 2 kilometers. Guests at Pimalai have exclusive access to the super comfortable beds and lounge chairs from the resort.
Honeymoon destination
From the Pimalai Resort on top of the hill, you can see the perfect crescent shape of Kantiang Bay and its crystal clear water. For many, Pimalai is the ultimate honeymoon destination. Now you do not necessarily need to be married (like me) to stay here, but I can really recommend Pimalai Koh Lanta for honeymooners. Of course also for those who are looking for peace, quietness and a unique “once in a lifetime” experience.
You can spend hours at the resort or down at the beach until night falls and you get ready for a dinner for two under the stars.
Dining under the stars
he elegantly designed Seven Seas Wine Bar and Restaurant serves a European cuisine in the form of an “a la carte” style menu. Only the finest ingredients from around the world are being selected. The restaurant also has a wide selection of world class wines to accompany the exquisite dishes.
Sip a glass of wine or a cocktail on the sun beds and enjoy the sunset over Kantiang Bay.
Enjoy after your dinner the deep orange color of the sun when it sets and disappears behind the horizon …
Dreams come true
Pimalai Resort and Spa is nestled amidst a lush tropical forest. The banyan tree is the focal point of the resort and radiates something sacred. The only sound you hear here is that of the waves and the birds singing. The luxurious rooms, the beautiful infinity pools and great restaurants all offer stunning panoramic views of the sea and surrounding hills. Here you find yourself in a fairy tale where all dreams come true …
How to get there?
The easiest way to reach Koh Lanta is to fly to Krabi. From Amsterdam there are no direct flights, however you can fly nonstop to Bangkok and from there to Krabi. If you stay at the Pimalai resort, you’ll meet in Krabi someone of the staff and you will be brought by private boat to your destination. If you arrive by boat from another destination in Thailand then you’ll meet the Pimalai staff at the dock of Koh Lanta and you will be brought back to that point after your stay.
