Beautiful private villa Vista Royal, Jan Thiel Curacao

Good news, since May 15, Dutch citizens may officially travel again and Curaçao is back on yellow!  Curacao has also abandoned its lockdown period and all beaches are open again, so double celebration 🙂 In addition, TUI has increased its flight capacity since this week and you can now fly 5 days a week to Hato airport or every day with KLM. Curacao is one of the few countries in the world that is safe to travel to for the Netherlands. This means, among other things, that you no longer need to take a PCR test when returning back to the Netherlands.

If you go on holiday to Curaçao, then most people book an accommodation in or near Jan Thiel Bay, the beating heart of Curaçao. Here you will find many beautiful private villas in the district Vista Royal. Just perfect if you want to celebrate your vacation with your family or with a group of friends in Jan Thiel within walking distance of the beach. But which villa is really nice? After 3 months living in Curacao I ended this wonderful period with a staycation at Villa Solo in Vista Royal and I had better not, because after this I really did not want to leave. It was so beautiful!

Villas Vista Royal

Villas Vista Royal are actually 3 villas next to each other that you can book separately depending on the number of people, but also as a whole if you are with a very large group of up to 22 people. The owners of the villas have thought about this very well because the gardens are separated by wooden gates that fit nicely into the design of the garden, but can also be opened if you want to connect multiple villas.

So you still have your own villa, but you can if you want literally jump into each other’s pool, and in the evening until late at night drink together in the open patio by the pool. We ourselves were in Villa Solo for 6 people and believe me it is big enough and yet it does not feel too big, because it is very homely and warm. You feel right at home. Upon arrival there was a personal attention ready in a basket with some goodies. Shall we do a home tour?

Interior Villa Solo

What I really love about villa Solo is that everything is open and that inside is connected to outside. You just do not expect on the outside how beautiful it is on the other side. We were completely surprised when we opened the door of the villa and the kids were totally crazy when they saw the hanging chairs in the patio. See also my nice Insta videos under “Hotel Tips” on my Instagram account @diaryofkasia, but for now please read on.

Villa Solo has 3 bedrooms, 3 ensuite bathrooms, a separate guest toilet, open living room with large kitchen and a beautiful garden with private pool. The garden is beautifully situated in the green and early in the morning you will be awakened by singing birds, how beautiful is that!

It’s a treat to be able to stand in the open kitchen, and totally fun to dine with friends at the oak table or BBQ together because it’s there too. And when evening falls, the pool lights up in different colors, and Vincent and I drink a glass of champagne on the lounge bed. We look out on the house which is beautifully lit and we can only dream of having such a beautiful villa. That is why it is such a nice place, because once you have been here, you do not want to leave 😉

What to do in Jan Thiel

Jan Thiel is always bustling and I know it because I lived there for 3 months. Villa Solo is within walking distance (10 min) from Jan Thiel Beach. At the end of the street from Villa Solo you will find Van den Tweel supermarket and right next to it you can also eat delicious sushi at Kyoto Sushi & Grill.

Then you walk down towards Jan Thiel Bay. On the other side you will find beautiful bougainvilleas that bloom all year round. Curaçao is a palette of beautiful colors all year round because the weather is always nice. If you cross the parking lot and walk down the stairs to the right of the Casino towards Papagayo Beach, the blue sea is already shining towards you! See 2nd photo below.

1. Papagayo Beach

Papagayo is a hip and friendly family beach where even as a non-guest of the hotel or resort, you also can rent beds at their pool. I think this is the perfect place for small children because the naturally created pool slopes gently and there are no waves as well.

You can lounge under the umbrellas and they often have a weekly special for which you can rent a bed for a nice amount (just ask at the Beach Club) including breakfast and or lunch with a bottle of water.

2. ZEST

You will find Restaurant Zest right next to Papagayo on Jan Thiel Beach. You can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner or to flex work on the lounge sofa which we often did. We found it a lovely place and came there often.

In the afternoon we often sat down at one of the picnic tables on the beach for a nice freshly made smoothie or delicious poke bowl with tuna and salmon. Here you can also dine under the stars and every Friday night we always had our Friday afternoon drink with our friends and all our kids.

It was always a big party for young and old and I still miss it! See also the nice Insta movies on my instagram account here @diaryofkasia at the end under “Curaçao Life” at Zest Curaçao. Then you have a bit of an idea how it is at night there on the beach 🙂

3. Zanzibar

A little further on at Zanzibar Beach & Restaurant on Jan Thiel Beach it is always party time. You can enjoy lying on your beach bed under the palm trees, but also eat tasty pizza’s on the beach. In the evening it is always nice here with people dining or drinking a cocktail. Due to Covid-19, there are currently no more parties given, but you can still go out and have a nice drink on the beach under the stars. If you ask me, the ultimate vacation feeling!

4. Koko’s

At the very end of Jan Thiel Bay you will find Koko’s beach. Here too you can start your day with a delicious cup of coffee on one of the luxurious beach beds. Koko’s is a little bit hidden and is therefore the perfect place for couples. At Koko’s you can also enjoy a delicious lunch or bites. It is really a must to spend a day here with the two of you.

And then when you come home after a long day at the beach in one of your favorite Villas Vistas Royal  Then you drink some more champagne at your private pool and you realize what a gift it is to be here. After our stay here at Villa Solo we know for sure, Curacao is really great and has so much to offer that we will definitely come back!

Cheers to life @Villa Solo
