Last February I spent a whole month on the beautiful island of Bali. Since then, the beauty of this island has stolen my heart! I went on a discovery trip from the impressive jungle of Ubud to the beautiful south to the bustling Seminyak.
Every place has something unique, and I was selecting the best accommodations for you. Below I share my personal top 10 accommodations in Bali.
1. The Legian, Seminyak *****
My absolute number one, especially if you highly value personal service. There are 5-stars, and there are 5-star plus. The Legian in Seminyak deserves a 5-star plus certification because there is no other resort in Bali which can match with the personal service that they offer to each guest here. The Legian in Seminyak is part of the Leading Hotels of the World (LHW) group. Only the most exclusive hotels with the best service are adjoined.
From the moment the doors of your taxi are opened, you will be completely pampered. The Legian is located directly at the sea and offers one of the most beautiful sunsets of Bali. The suites are spacious, stylishly designed and have all sea views. Through an old stone staircase, you step literally inside the Garden of Eden, a pure pleasure! Seminyak is known for its many luxury resorts in Bali, but if you don’t know which one to choose, then I can recommend The Legian.

2. Maya Ubud Resort & Spa *****
Ubud and its surroundings is my favorite spot in Bali. Here you find yourself literally in the jungle, and you become one with nature. Due to the higher altitude of Ubud, it can rain here more often, but even then it is beautiful. After a short rain, a mysterious fog appears and makes the jungle alive. Within a 5 minute drive from Ubud town, you will find this beautiful five-star resort Maya Ubud Resort & Spa.
Maya Ubud is a tropical oasis located on a private property of no less than 10 hectares. The villas are traditionally furnished and in full harmony with the Balinese culture and nature. The resort is very spacious, and as a guest, you experience here complete privacy. Maya Ubud borders down in the valley the Petanu River and on the other side, it is surrounded by the impressive rice fields of Peliatan. I will definitively come back here!

3. Komaneka Tanggayuda, Ubud *****
Komaneka has a total of 4 resorts around Ubud, but Tanggayuda is my favorite, just a 20-minute drive from Ubud town. Here you find yourself in the middle of the most beautiful nature. You see tropical birds, and if you are lucky, you even see monkeys swinging through the treetops.
The Komaneka resorts are a family chain, and you experience this in the personal service and friendly atmosphere. Between the resorts and Ubud town runs daily a free shuttle that takes guests everywhere they like to go. Every afternoon, there is a mini high tea, which you can enjoy freely at any resort. A nice way to visit also the other resorts and they are all equally beautiful.

4. Segara Village, Sanur ****
Sanur is the place for anyone who loves peace and sea. I like the friendly atmosphere and love to stay here. A beautiful hiking trail right on the beach separates most resorts. On the main street, you will find cozy restaurants and small boutiques. Sanur is a popular destination and an ideal place for families or couples.
If you want a nice accommodation, then I can heartily recommend Segara Village. It is a large-scale resort, and the private garden connects the different accommodations and pools to each other. In size and service, Segara Village deserves in my view five stars, because I was impressed with the extent and the beautiful design of this resort. Don’t miss out the Byrdhouse Beach Club; it is a great place for a lunch in the afternoon or to dine or lounge in the evening.
5. Boutique Hotel Kejora Suites ****
Do you prefer to stay in a small-scale accommodation, then Kejora Suites Boutique Hotel in Sanur may be for you. Here you come to relax. Guests at Kejora Suites can make free use of the facilities of Segara Village 700 meters away.
In the morning, a delicious a la carte breakfast (with freshly baked rolls) is served in the adjacent “Glass House”. This is also a great place to lunch or to dine. The surprise of the rooms, all situated around the pool, is surely its open bathrooms. While taking a shower in the open air, you experience the ultimate Bali feeling.
6. Royal Tulip Visesa, Ubud *****
Royal Tulip Visesa sits amidst lush green rice fields at a 10-minute drive from Ubud center. It is an eco-friendly resort. As a guest, you can get involved in the daily rural life of the Balinese culture. In the morning, for example, you can join a special yoga session with your feet in the mud of the rice fields. Mud has namely healing properties for the skin. With this special yoga session, both your body and mind get enriched. A unique experience and highly recommended.
Especially families with children will love it here. At dawn, the roosters that herald the morning wake you up, hundreds of dragonflies fly at sunrise over the rice fields, butterflies travel through the air, and the only thing you hear are the chirping crickets. Royal Tulip Visesa also has its own organic garden. Your food is freshly picked and cooked while you’re waiting for your lunch. It was a unique experience here. If you are looking for sustainable properties around Ubud than Visesa might be the right place for you.

7. Tugu Hotel, Canggu *****
Canggu is the new hotspot spot of Bali. This funky little town in the middle of the rice fields on the southwest side of Bali is emerging. Canggu is especially popular among surfers because it is located right by the sea and there is always a relaxed atmosphere. If you like organic food, then Canggu may still your hunger. Everywhere you find trendy cafes and restaurants where you can eat a super healthy and delicious meal.
Canggu is also home to the only 5-star boutique hotel, Tugu. The hotel sits right by the sea at a stone’s throw from the famous Old Man’s Beach Bar. The owner of Tugu is an art dealer and the whole hotel houses a collection of special Balinese art objects. They even have a gallery where you can buy as a guest original Indonesian pieces of art. If you are an art lover, then you will be amazed what you see here. I loved to stay here because I felt to go back in time and in the history of the Balinese culture.

8. Hanging Gardens, Ubud *****
The luxurious Hanging Gardens of Bali is perhaps the most impressive resort in Ubud. This five-star resort is unique because of its beautiful two-storey infinity pool inspired by the rice terraces of Bali.
The water of the pool seems to disappear into the landscape and from the edge of the pool you look out over the beautiful jungle of Bali. The edge is so high that it seems as you are standing on a cliff. Very special!

9. Four Seasons Jimbaran *****
I am a Four Seasons fan because they possess the most beautiful resorts all around the world. In Bali, they have even two. One in Ubud and one in the south of the island at Jimbaran Bay.
This resort is just a 2 minutes walk away from the beach and looks right out over the sea. The luxury villas are spacious, and all have a private pool. The villas are not cheap, but definitely recommended for a honeymoon or a special holiday.

10. Padma Resort, Ubud *****
Padma Resort is new in Ubud. The Padma boasts the biggest, heated outdoor pool of Bali in the middle of the jungle of Ubud.
Padma Resort is a 40-minute drive from Ubud. They have a free shuttle bus that operates every day from the resort to the town and back. Each afternoon guests can enjoy a great high tea with sweets. It is an exceptional place surrounded by the jungle of Ubud, a great enjoyment!
