The banyan tree is a sacred tree in Thailand. If you’ve ever seen it, then you know exactly why this tree is so unique. Several legends exist about the origin of this tree. One of the oldest legends comes from the ancient tribes of India. According to them, the banyan tree symbolizes the richness of nature. It even seems that Buddha attained enlightenment and immortality under the Banyan Tree.
Also, the Banyan Tree can become one of the oldest trees in the world. Five years ago, in a private natural bay on the island of Koh Samui a particular resort called Banyan Tree was originated. I was able to take a look and taste it’s five-star luxuriousness. It was definitively a real luxury!
If you are a little familiar with five-star resorts, you may know that you will be transported by buggies (a type of golf cart). And that’s a good thing because most of the 5-star resorts are so vast that you can not go around by foot.
When you enter the resort, it feels like you ride through a natural park. As the Banyan Tree resort is built on the cliffs of the bay, you first have to make a big climb to the top. Once at the top, you can’t believe your eyes. You get immediately the first “wow” effect.
While you are welcomed on the highest point of the resort, you’ll stare your eyes out to the bay that has formed tens of meters below you. The bay is shaped like a half moon; here the private beach of Banyan Tree is as well situated. After you recover a bit of the first “wow” effect, you will be received as a guest with a welcome drink and homemade coconut biscuits.
While you quietly sip your drink and enjoy the environment, your host is taking care that everything is prepared for your stay. As a guest of Banyan Tree, you have throughout your stay a private host at your disposal for all your questions. More personal than this is almost not possible, however, at this five-star deluxe level you may expect this service.
The view over the Gulf of Thailand above on your right and below the bay on your left.
To me, it is every time again memorable to be surprised. It can be found in little things, but often it is the environment that creates the first surprise.
Once arrived you want to know of course where you’ll spend the rest of your time. All villas of Banyan Tree Samui have a private pool. The difference lies in the view, size and luxury. Believe me, even the cheapest villa for € 925 per night is one to dream away 🙂
Splash from your bed directly into your pool. How cool is that!
The beach
Guests can spend days in their private pool villa. The villas are equipped with every luxury and a private pool, so you do not always have to make an effort to go out the door.
However, the beach down below beckons you and invites you to take a dip in the sea. On the beach, you can chill out in the large two-seater lounge sofas or take a drink with a snack in the lounge bar “The Sand.”

Guests of Banyan Tree appreciate this resort for its privacy and exclusivity. The villas are breathtaking and equipped with every luxury. The service is very personal, attentive, and this makes the stay for everyone particularly pleasant.
The Rainforest Hydro Spa is the center and cornerstone of the resort, and the treatments are very special. You feel like you’ve just been away in paradise. I can not explain it, but once you get inside the resort, then everything fits to the perfection.
Recommended The Edge restaurant
Have dinner at “The Edge” restaurant, it has a great view of the bay. The chef cook of Banyan Tree prepares different traditional Thai dishes at a superior culinary level. I let myself be tempted by the lobster cooked the Thai way which was recommended to me. Each bite was a taste explosion and that in a romantic outdoor setting. Everything was perfect, and it just could not be better.
As a gift, the always magical sunset
Want to know how to get there?
Banyan Tree Samui is located on the northernmost tip of Lamai beach. In my opinion the most beautiful beach on the east coast of Koh Samui. The airport is located only 9 km from the resort, so you’re there in no time. Bangkok Airways offers direct flights from Bangkok to Koh Samui. The flight takes 1 hour and 10 minutes. From there you can arrange a shuttle service to the hotel.
